How to Paint Roughcast

How to Paint Roughcast
Also known as pebbledash, roughcast is a textured plaster coating made with any or all of the following: lime, sand, gravel, shells or pebbles. Painting roughcast is a challenging endeavor because bits of aggregate tend to come loose during application. This can ruin painting tools and lead to a frustrating, tedious experience. Ease the painting process by committing yourself to proper preparation. Prime and paint the roughcast using suitable tools or coverage problems will arise.

Before You Start Painting.

Explore the job thoroughly and look for wear and tear. If there is a lot of scraping to be done, plan to scrape one day and paint another.  This will allow for you time to fill around any fascia and soffit areas andgaps in wood siding and around window frames.  If possible, start with a jet power washing of the area to be painted to break down any mould or moss that has gathered through time and then on to scraping loose roughcast and paint, caulking, and the priming of any bare wood that has been exposed.

Interior House Painting Rules

Interior House Painting RulesRules Guaranteed to Make Painting Go Faster and Cleaner

On your next inside painting project, religiously follow these simple rules and I guarantee that you will save at least 2 hours. Here we go!

1. Dampen Your Brush

Before painting, slosh your brush in whatever solvent you will be using at the end of the day to clean the brush (i.e., water for latex, mineral spirits for oil, etc.) It'll be easier to clean when you're done.

2. Wrap Brush or Roller

If you don't feel like cleaning your brush or roller at the end of the day and expect to get back to painting within a few days--wrap the brush or roller tightly in a plastic bag

Golden Rules:
Buy the best tools and equipment you can afford, especially scissors and shears.
When using lining paper (blankstock) buy the heavier kind as this is easier to work with and should dispel the need for double-lining.
Follow the manufacturers instructions  on the labels of rolls but don't always interpret too literally as there is sometimes a degree of flexibility, especially on soaking times.
Complete all your preparation before you start to paper.
Try to ensure that you have bought sufficient rolls to complete the job.

How to paint a ceiling, (Step By Step).

Golden rule: Always paint the ceiling before walls or woodwork. As long as you don't have a lot of furniture to clamber over, painting a ceiling is fairly straightforward.Firstly sheet up everything which is in danger of getting paint on it. No matter how careful you are, paint splashes have a way of finding exposed surfaces.

Use a stepladder, preferably one with a platform to hold tools or a paint container. If you haven't got steps, a strong plastic milk or beer crate or a wooden chair should be adequate.

Thinking About Painting The Exterior Of Your House

Try These 4 Exterior Tips For Success

Tip 1. Preparation Of The Wall Surface.

Carefully examine the surface you're planning to paint. Is the old paint peeling and cracked? Are fungus, algae and dirt dulling the colour? Unless these problems are addressed they'll sabotage your new paint job in no time. Careful surface preparation is the foundation of a long-lasting paint job.

Proper surface preparation often takes much longer than the actual application of paint. Be sure to allow for this important step in your budget and schedule.

Here Are My Tips To Get The Perfect Finish.
When Buying Paint and Brushes, Always Take advice From The Staff. They Will Always Give You The Best Options And Solutions .

A Water Based Emulsion Is The Best For Walls And Ceilings And Is Better Applied With 2 Coats, The First Coat Acts as An Undercoat.

Don't Confuse Matt Emulsion With Silk. Matt Is A Flat Finish And Tends Not To Show Up Defects As Much As Silk As It Is Non-Reflective,But It Tends To Mark A Lot Easier And Cant Be Washed.

Tips On How To Remove Wallpaper.

Tips On How To Remove Wallpaper.
Before you start be aware that wallpaper removal can be labor intensive and could cause severe damage to the walls. Most removal damage is due to the lack of a wallpaper primer before the walls were wallpapered, resulting in the glue being absorbed into the wallboard. The top layers of wallboard (paper) will try to come off with the wallpaper backing. If this occurs in large areas, call a professional.
There are many different types of wallpaper on the market today.
